Children have just begun their journey through life, but there are things that can have a long-term or even a permanent impact on their life. RCPD created this resource page to help parents and guardians keep their child safe.

Drug and Alcohol Myths vs Facts

While drugs can put a teenager’s health and life in jeopardy, many teens are not aware of the risks. Even for those teens who do not abuse drugs, some have friends or family who do, and they are often looking for ways to help them. Sacramento County published a Learn About Drug and Alcohol Facts article to address myths and help teens feel comfortable asking questions. The county also put together a presentation on how to talk to kids about alcohol and drugs.

Staying Safe Online

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has a NetSmartz resources page to help educate children and teens on being safe online in the form of tip sheets and activity ideas for a variety of topics and situations from window pop-ups to passwords. As the digital world extends into our real world, staying safe in both requires us to be aware of and understand best practices.

Be a Bicycle Pro

RCPD wants to help our local youth be bicycle pros with five bicycle safety tips when riding throughout our community. Share these tips with your children.

Driving and Road Safety

Driving provides a sense of freedom, but it also comes with major responsibilities. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) wants to help your teens be safe as they start learning to drive. The NHTSA has a Teen Driving page to make it easier for you to teach your teen how to drive responsibly. It addresses common safety problems and how to avoid them, the benefits of seat belt use, distracted driving, and much more.
