The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department has partnered with the Bureau of Land Management – California, to present our Second Annual Wild Horse Adoption event.
On Sunday, April 8th, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. the adoption event will begin. This event will be held at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center located at 12270 Bruceville Road in Elk Grove, CA.
During this event, visitors will be able to learn more about the program and how it benefits the communities in our region. Visitors will meet the horses and their inmate trainers who will conduct presentations with the animals to which they have dedicated months to train. All horses at this event are completely inmate trained and saddle-started, ready for adoption.
The Sheriff’s Department Wild Horse Program was established in 2014 and has provided previously incarcerated inmates with training and guidance leading them to successful career paths within the equine industry.
There will also be a special presentation to a mounted police unit. This organization has chosen to adopt two mustangs from the program to be deployed within their service area.
