On July 28, 2017, Homicide Detectives identified Rodolfo Zavala, 24, and Ramon Zavala, 16, of Sacramento, who were wanted for the murder of 20-year-old Simranjit Singh, which occurred on July 25, 2017.
On September 20, 2017, Sacramento Sheriff’s Department Detectives, working collaboratively with law enforcement officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and in cooperation with Government Officials of Mexico, located the two outstanding suspects within Mexico. The suspects were extradited to the United States and were booked into custody on September 21, 2017. Rodolfo Zavala was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and Ramon Zavala was booked into the Sacramento County Juvenile Detention Facility. Both suspects were arrested for murder and are ineligible for bail.
A little before 10:30 p.m. on July 25, 2017, the Sheriff’s Communication Center received a 911 call regarding a shooting which occurred in the 8400 block of Florin Road (Chevron Gas Station) in South Sacramento.
Deputies responded to the scene and located the victim on the ground of the parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures. Sacramento Metro Fire responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The victim was an employee of the gas station.
Deputies learned that one of the employees of the gas station was cleaning the gas station parking lot. At one point he had a verbal altercation with the suspects who were loitering in the parking lot. One of the suspects physically assaulted the employee during the verbal altercation. That employee went inside the store to call 911 about the assault. His co-worker (victim) was then approached by these same suspects. One of the suspects produced a handgun and fired several shots at the victim, which inevitably killed him. The suspects fled south on French Road from the scene.
A third suspect was arrested on July 26th for his involvement in the murder and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
