Investigators have identified the suspect in this case as 35 year old Lucas Sanchez of the bay area. Sanchez is currently in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail and is ineligible for bail due to his charges.
At 9:23 a.m. on September 11, 2017, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Communication Center received a call from a citizen complainant who was in the 5300 block of Date Avenue. The complainant stated there was an unconscious, injured female lying in a hallway at a local hotel that appeared to be the victim of a physical assault. The complainant further stated there was a male still on the property who was potentially involved.
An off-duty law enforcement officer, who was attending a training class at the location, was directed by hotel employees to a possible suspect observed wandering around the property. The off-duty law enforcement officer detained the subject who appeared to be involved.
Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and took custody of the male while other deputies entered the building and were directed to the female victim. The female victim was found to be receiving first aid from other off-duty law enforcement and civilians. Personnel from the Sacramento Metro Fire Department arrived and transported the victim to an area hospital where despite the lifesaving efforts of first responders, she was later pronounced deceased.
Sacramento Sheriff’s Department Homicide Detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation. The suspect, a male in his early 30’s, has been arrested and booked into custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail for murder. The victim and the suspect in this case are believed to be acquaintances and were guests at the hotel.
The identity of the victim in this case will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office, after notification has been made to her next of kin.
