Arrest in South Sacramento Burglary and Sexual Assault

During the course of this investigation, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department Child Abuse Detectives identified a suspect in this case.  The suspect was identified as 32 year old, Steve Vang, of Sacramento.  Vang was charged in this case on September 6, 2017 and was already in custody in the Sacramento County Main Jail for unrelated charges. Vang will remain in custody and is scheduled for future court appearances.


A little after 11:00 a.m. on June 14, 2017, the Sheriff’s Communication Center received a 911 call regarding a burglary and sexual assault which occurred at a residence located in the area of 40th Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in South Sacramento.

The suspect entered the victim’s residence through a window, and began taking property from within the house.  The suspect then located a 12-year-old female victim inside a bedroom.  The suspect began to assault the victim.  The victim fought back, and the suspect fled on foot over a fence.  Deputies responded to the scene and set up a perimeter.   A K9 search of the area was conducted with negative results.

The suspect was described as an Asian or Hispanic male adult, approximately 20 years old, 5’11” tall, thin build, with shoulder length black hair and a goatee.Sheriff’s Child Abuse detectives are asking anyone with information relating to this incident, to please contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP.  Tip information may also be left anonymously at or by calling (916) 874-TIPS (8477).
