A little after 3:00 p.m. on August 3, 2017, the Sheriff’s Communication Center received a 911 call regarding a plane crashing into a house near the intersection of 28th Street and U Street in Rio Linda.
Deputies responded to the scene and located the small, four-seat plane in the yard of a residence. The plane did not strike any structures. Deputies approached the plane and located a male pilot, who was the only occupant of the plane. The victim was unresponsive when deputies arrived and they immediately began life saving measures. Sacramento Metro Fire responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
Witnesses observed the plane flying in a southerly direction at a low attitude. The plane struck a power pole and trees before crashing into the yard. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be responding to the scene and conducting a parallel investigation into the cause of the accident.
The identity of the victim in this case will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office, after notification has been made to his next of kin.
