Yesterday afternoon (July 26, 2017), Sheriff’s Homicide detectives arrested Alexander Lopez, 40, of Sacramento for his involvement in the murder of 20-year-old Simranjit Singh which occurred in the late evening hours of July 25, 2017. Lopez was located at a relative’s residence in Sacramento by detectives of the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau. He was arrested without incident.
A little before 10:30 p.m. on July 25, 2017, the Sheriff’s Communication Center received a 911 call regarding a shooting which occurred in the 8400 block of Florin Road (Chevron Gas Station) in South Sacramento.
Deputies responded to the scene and located the victim on the ground of the parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Deputies immediately began life saving measures. Sacramento Metro Fire responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. The victim was an employee of the gas station.
Deputies learned that one of the employees of the gas station was cleaning the gas station parking lot. At one point he had a verbal altercation with two to three suspects that were loitering in the parking lot. One of the suspects physically assaulted the employee during the verbal altercation. That employee went inside the store to call 911 about the assault. His co-worker (victim) was then approached by these same suspects. One of the suspects produced a handgun and fired several shots at the victim, which inevitably killed him. The suspects fled south on French Road from the scene.
Detectives are looking for the other two suspects. One suspect is described as a Hispanic male adult, early 20’s, 5’10”-6’ tall, and 200 pounds. The other suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his middle to late teens.
Lopez was arrested for murder and booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail. He is currently ineligible for bail, and is scheduled to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on July 28, 2017.
