A little before 2:30 p.m. on June 25, 2017, the Sheriff’s Communication Center received a 911 call regarding a male that appeared to be drowning in the area of Three Mile Slough in Brannan Island State Park.
The 40-year-old father and his 5-year-old daughter were kayaking, when the kayak overturned. Both the father and daughter went underwater initially. According to witnesses, the father surfaced with the daughter and held her above the water. A good Samaritan on a jet ski was able to grab the daughter and bring her back to shore. The father went underwater and never surfaced. Neither were wearing life jackets
The Sacramento Sheriff’s Marine Detail and helicopter, Solano County OES Dive Team, and United States Coast Guard Rio Vista Station responded to the area to begin the search for the missing father. A little after 11:00 p.m. last night, the victim was located by dive teams and recovered.
The victim is a 40-year-old male out of San Francisco. The identity of the victim in this case will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office, after notification has been made to his next of kin.
