A little after 7:30 p.m. on June 16, 2017, a shooting occurred in a parking lot near the intersection of 23rd Avenue and 42nd Street in South Sacramento.
A Sacramento Police officer was driving on 23rd Avenue when they were waved down by a citizen, who stated a male was shot and lying on the ground. The officer was further advised two suspects fled on foot north on 42nd Street. The officer located two males matching the description running on 42nd Street. Both males were detained, and one was found to have a firearm in his possession.
Deputies responded to the scene and located three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. A 38-year-old male sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body. Sheriff’s deputies and Sacramento Police officers immediately started life-saving measures. That victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The other two victims were a 35-year-old male and a 47-year-old male. The 35-year-old male victim sustained a gunshot wound to the lower body. The 47-year-old male victim sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body and lower body. Both victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening wounds. Witnesses in the area stated they heard an argument prior to several gunshots being fired.
Homicide detectives are on-scene and beginning their investigation. There have been no arrests made at this time.
The identity of the victim in this case will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office, after notification has been made to his next of kin.
