City of Rancho Cordova Rancho Cordova Police Department

May 8, 2016

A little after 6:00 p.m. on May 7, 2016, the Sheriff’s Communication Center received a call regarding a suspect armed with an assault rifle, who threatened to go out and shoot people and shoot any officers that attempted to stop him.  Officers were provided a description of a vehicle the suspect was driving.

Rancho Cordova Police officers located a vehicle matching the description in the area of Coloma Road and attempted a vehicle stop.  The suspect, later identified as 34 year old Dwayne Chandler, led officers on a short pursuit.  Chandler drove into an apartment complex in the 10600 block of Coloma Road and fled from his vehicle into an apartment.  Officers created a perimeter around the apartment, and began evacuations of some surrounding apartments.

Officer received information there were several young children inside the apartment as well.  After approximately 30 minutes of public address announcements, Chandler exited the apartment and was taken into custody without incident.  Officers located an assault rifle inside the apartment after a search.

Chandler was arrested for evading a police officer and felon in possession of a firearm.  He was booked at the Sacramento County jail in lieu of $590,000, and is scheduled to be arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court on May 10, 2016.
